Welcome to the new ‘HSP Zone’ section of the website!

Many of my blog posts refer to ‘Sensory Processing Sensitivity,’ and I am often approached and thanked by other HSP’s (Highly Sensitive Persons) for being so open about our trait.
With that in mind, I decided it was high time to create a dedicated section of the site, just to discuss, reflect upon and promote useful content for HSP’s.
All are welcome to read it, naturally.  In fact, if you are a non-HSP but genuinely interested in understanding either an HSP in your life, or simply more about what it means, you are most welcome!  The world needs more people like you; with tolerance, compassion and an open mind.

In the film ‘Sensitive: The Untold Story,’ famous singer Alanis Morissette mentions that one thing she wishes the world would give us is ‘mercy.’
Most highly sensitive people are not looking for sympathy or special treatment, just a little space and understanding of the fact we process and feel sensory input in a different, more amplified way than 80 – 85% of the population.
We are our own harshest critics, and don’t need ill-informed judgements about our way of interacting with the world from others.  Please try to understand that while nurture can play a role in the confidence of the highly sensitive person, it is at its most basic a genetically inherited trait.  You can’t change it and it isn’t a flaw.  The trait is a gift, but due to the fact we are a minority (albeit a minority of 1.4 billion) HSP’s often feel shame and suffer low self-esteem that they can’t be like ‘normal’ people.  The simple fact is, we ARE normal but also different from the majority in some very fundamental ways.

Since I mentioned the film ‘Sensitive: The Untold Story,’ I’ll put a trailer for it here.  I encourage you to purchase or rent this wonderful documentary and have a good look.  It was my pleasure to support the project during production, and I am thankful to the team for including my name in the end credits as one of the supporters.
As well as the DVD’s advertised on the site, you can rent/purchase the film via Amazon here.
